As the weather warms and the snow melts, conditions on the Truckee River (the only outlet of Lake Tahoe), improve! Make sure to head on out to the Reno River Festival in May to watch professional kayakers take on the rapids in the urban whitewater park in the heart of downtown Reno. If your group is looking to experience the river rapids first-hand, let us know and we can help you to set up an unforgettable rafting, float, or kayaking excursion on the Truckee River.
The Sierra Cloud is a 55 ft. catamaran based on the north shore of Lake Tahoe at the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe. With a 41-passenger capacity, it is the ultimate adventure for a small to mid-size group. The two-hour sailing cruise transports you along the pristine Northern shores of Lake Tahoe with panoramic views of the entire lake. Guests can choose to lounge inches above the crystal-clear blue water on fabric netting or opt for seating on the deck to take in the mountain scenery from a different perspective. The Sierra Cloud offers three daily public sails at 12:00pm, 2:30pm and 5:00pm with an upgraded live music sunset cruise sailing on Friday and Saturday evenings. The crew has years of worldwide sailing experience, and some fascinating accounts of Tahoe. Not staying at the Hyatt? No worries! The Sierra Cloud is able to do remote charters to other docks throughout the lake. All Sierra Cloud cruises include premium beer, white wine, soda, water and light hors d’oeuvres.

There’s a new property in South Lake Tahoe! On April 1, 2013, the former Embassy Suites began operation as an independent property with a new management team. The new independent operation, called Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel, will allow the property to cater their services more specifically to the local environment. All reservations include stays in a two room suite, free breakfast buffet and an evening happy hour! The nine-story all-suite hotel has 400 rooms, 10,000 square-feet of meeting space and a full-service restaurant and bar. Five to seven million in renovations are expected to take place through the summer. Improvements are to include: renovating all guest-rooms, adding flat screen TV’s to suite bedrooms and new carpet in the hotel’s public areas. For a closer look at the new Lake Tahoe Resort, visit TahoeResortHotel.com or call 800-988-9895.
From Montreal we ventured on through the storm to Washington DC to help showcase all of the amazing things that Reno has to offer. The trip was wonderful and the historical sights were breathtaking but we left with a great appreciation of how nice it is to manage transfers in a 10-minute city where the coffee is well under $40 a gallon and the sun shines about 300 days a year.
The Destination Reno/Reno team will be out and about over the next few months. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to enjoy an evening at the Nevada Museum of Art for “Van Gogh in the City” with the Reno-Tahoe NACE chapter on May 9, 2013. Tickets are still available at renotahoenace.net. Our team is expanding again so we will be making introductions soon.
Our Reno website is coming soon and we are looking forward to showcasing all the great new things in Reno. From painting classes to amazing dining locations Reno is on a role.
